Much history in the Memphis area is musical: the birth
of the Blues, and later, Rock and Roll. Memphis,
the birthplace of Rock 'n Roll, has been celebrating over 50
years of Rock and Roll since legends such as Elvis, Carl Perkins,
Jerry Lee Lewis and even Johnny Cash became famous. Downtown
Memphis abounds with lively activities and sights,
day or night. Meat lovers commune in more than 100 barbeque
restaurants that deliciously proclaim Memphis "The Pork BBQ
Capital of the World." A renaissance city and great barbeque
are great attractions, but the most compelling reasons to visit
this city on the bluffs of the Mississippi River is its musical
heritage.
America’s most significant musical distillery, Memphis
first packaged the creative genius of Blues Artists who were
scattered throughout the Mississippi Delta, enabling the city
to earn the title "Home of the Blues." From its Blues roots,
this city of the Mid-South added a rhythm section to co-develop
R&B. Memphis launched the fusion of Blues, Gospel, and Country
music to create not only new forms of the Blues, but also the
earliest forms of Rock and Roll. Memphis' own Blues Artist,
B.B. King, invented the concept of lead guitar, now standard
in today's Rock Bands. |
