Local website helps victims and families connect:
A web hosting company in Bartlett has set up a website to help people find missing relatives, family, and friends affected by Hurricane Katrina. Families can post their contact information or email addresses, phone numbers, pictures, and anything else they think will help them locate their families. The website requires the user to register with a user name and password, but is free to use. Visit the website at http://www.findourfamily.com/
Website helps find Housing - place ads online anonymously if you have space to offer victims:
You can help with Housing. MoveOn.org just launched a website, http://www.hurricanehousing.org/, to connect your empty beds with hurricane victims who desperately need a place to sleep. You can post your offer of housing (a spare room, extra bed, even a decent couch) on http://www.hurricanehousing.org/ or search there for housing if you need it. MoveOn will pass requests from hurricane victims or relief agencies on to volunteer hosts, who can decide whether or not to respond to a particular request. The host remains anonymous until they reply to someone looking for housing. Pass this information along to people you know in the Southeast: http://www.hurricanehousing.org Housing is most urgently needed within reasonable driving distance (about 300 miles) of the affected areas, especially New Orleans.
MEMPHIS WEBSITE ASSISTS HURRICANE VICTIMS:
Here is a brand new site for local Memphis assistance in finding homes and family members for victims in the Memphis area: This is to assist in getting a local centralized location for all ads. http://www.desotocounty-fsbo.com/Katrina/index.php If we can reunite even just one family or find housing for just one victim, this site will have been a success! Please help us spread the word about this website so that we can come together as a community to help these people. Please post any listings you have.
IF YOU HAVE EVACUATED YOUR HOME AND ARE STAYING IN MEMPHIS: The Memphis Convention and Visitor's Bureau has a list of important information ranging from where you can stay, to getting medicine, to tourist information on their website.
